Doodle Swap

Having been on a creative hiatus, I really wanted to participate this go’round since I really missed being a part of the swap. Having an almost 11 month old has been incredibly time consuming, but have been really motivated lately to get into the creative groove. This Doodle Swap didn’t have a theme but chose to do Tablescapes. We had a Reveal Party recently and have an upcoming first birthday coming up that I have been scouring the party planning blogs for ideas for to incorporate into my party planning. I love planning.. I love putting together lists.. I love sketching out tables and where things are going to go.. One of my many quirks! but I love it! Here are the seven doodles I did for the swap.

Spring is Here!

It’s so refreshing to be able to go outside in flip-flops and a t-shirt and be greeted by slightly cool breezes and warm temperatures. My husband and I love being outdoors and take full advantage of our deck when the weather is nice. We’ll put up the canopy and dust off the furniture so we can sit, relax and rejuvenate ourselves from being little moles all winter. This year is a little different as far as just going outside to relax. We had to plan our time around our 9 month old Little Monkey’s sleep schedule but it worked out great this past weekend! We had a few hours during the day to just sit and soak in the sun, and after he went down to bed for the night, we stoked up a fire and enjoyed some laughs with our neighbors on the deck. Of course, we brought the Little Monkey outside too during the day! He loves being outside and gets a kick out of the wind blowing in his face. It makes him giggle!
Yesterday, we all went for a walk around the neighborhood so I could hunt down the perfect cherry blossom tree with fresh green leaves, and little did I know after walking around for a little bit, that they were right next door in my neighbors side yard! Go figure. I had never noticed them there before! I thought I’d have a little fun picking out the spring time colors too! Happy Spring Time Everyone! What are your favorite springtime moments?!

Wow! It has been ages since I’ve posted on here. A lot has happened and am hoping that a lot more will be happening, including updating my site to be more of what I’d love it to be. I’ve been given the opportunity to follow my dreams and am working on making them come true! There will be continued changes and updates to the site and will unfold my plans as they happen. I’m so excited, anxious and nervous but am so grateful to my family, my husband especially, for being so supportive and being my motivator. Cheers!!!

This round didn’t have a theme. Most of this series were subjects taken from notcot.org, notcouture’s section with a few from style.com and a few doodles created entirely from nothing. I used a .001 prisma pen on bristol paper. Enjoy!

This is long overdue, as is a lot of stuff that I want to post on here, but I have a really really good excuse for my lack of blogging commitment. In due time I’ll share it with you, but trust me it’s a pretty good excuse. OK, on to what this post really is about! Doodle Swap 7′s theme was “dreams/nightmares.” This series of doodles are what I think inanimate objects dream or have nightmares of. Wouldn’t you dream of yummy pieces of bread if you were a toaster? Cheers!

DoodleSwap #5: Hand Lettering & Typography

They’re done and they’re snailing their way to their new owners! This theme brought back a lot of memories from when I was a kid who had nothing else to do but doodle. I went through a phase where I would create calligraphic illustrations/graphics of my friends name’s or initials, which was about the same time I was really getting into hip-hop and their graphic and artistic styles back in the late 80′s, which was a huge influence in my style at the time. This theme also forced me to take a closer look into the world of typography and its art form. I think I have three to four pages worth of font sketches and ideas, but struggled with the execution for some reason. I originally wanted to create a series with the theme, but was running out of time, so decided that since random is what I do best, I’ll do whatever comes to mind.

Illustration Friday: Muddy

It’s been awhile since I’ve participated with Illustration Friday by posting something. Every week for almost a year or so that I haven’t participated, I’ve always illustrated typographically the topic of the week. This week I thought this would be a fun topic to do, and wanted to share!

This was sketched in a Moleskine with pencil. The mud was created with watercolor pencils and brushed with water, outlined with a blue 05 Micron and colored the other parts of the lettering with a white pencil.

more Art Monday Sketchbook Swap sketches

I meant to share these sketches done in the second and third sketchbooks.

The sketch of the balloon has a little story behind it. My husband and I were in our front yard cleaning up last spring, and as we were talking and enjoying the weather, my husband tells me to turn around. I turn and as I’m doing that a balloon that had been riding a gentle breeze, and had floated right into my arms. I was so amused, but even more amused when looked at the balloon to find that someone had drawn a smiley face on it. I still smile to myself when I think about it!
